Emergencies can happen anywhere and are particularly stressful when you’re traveling out of the country. As a Marathon Petroleum employee, you have access to programs that provide assistance if you experience a travel emergency or become ill while traveling away from home.

Medical Assistance Abroad

Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Core is a service provided by Anthem that will ensure you have access to doctors and hospitals around the world.

If you are a member of Marathon Petroleum’s U.S.-based Health Plan, your expenses for emergency and urgent care situations when traveling overseas will be covered, subject to normal plan provisions. However, many overseas providers do not have a direct connection with Anthem, which means your insurance card may not be accepted. If you need to locate a doctor or hospital overseas, call the Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Core service center. An assistance coordinator, in conjunction with a medical professional, will arrange an appointment or hospitalization for you as necessary. For outpatient and doctor care or inpatient care not arranged through the Blue Cross Blue Shield Global service center, you may need to pay upfront and be reimbursed through the service center.

Crisis Response

Marathon Petroleum’s Life Insurance Plan provides a travel assistance program administered by AXA Assistance USA, Inc. The program provides worldwide emergency medical and travel assistance; help replacing lost or stolen luggage, medication or other critical items; telephonic interpretation services; emergency travel arrangements and medical transport; and even pre-trip resources such as passport/visa information and immunization requirements.

Services are available 24/7/365 when traveling 100 or more miles away from home. Before you go on a trip – whether for business or pleasure – familiarize yourself with AXA Assistance USA, Inc.’s services and keep their phone numbers handy when traveling.
